A community is only as good as the people who make it a community. The individuals who go the extra mile to better a community are often not celebrated enough, as they do not always do it for the recognition but for the people they serve.

This is according to the Setshaba Marumo Wa Tshimega, who founded the Thaba Nchu Community Excellence Awards to shine a light on the individuals from Thaba Nchu who have made strides in their respective journeys.

“The community has excellent individuals who work hard to be the best in what they do,” he said.

According to Setshaba the aim of the awards is to positively impact the community while encouraging hard work, dedication, determination and discipline-values, which he said are needed in the community.

“The event means the world to me and my team as this is another way of saying thank you to the community that we serve and the community that has given me the best support since childhood to where I am today,” he expressed with gratitude.

Launched earlier this year, the awards ceremony was initially supposed to take place in May but had to be postponed due to poor support. The decision was made to move it to September to allow more time for community engagement.

The board members are still having discussions on the finalised date of the ceremony. “We’re running this event with a zero budget and are depending on community support to make this event a success, for each category there is a R500 nomination fee required and R150 per ticket for the event. We’ve engaged most of the businesses in and around Thaba Nchu but no one is coming on board with any kind of sponsors, but with God by our side, we’ll indeed succeed in hosting this event,” explained Setshaba.

There are categories ranging from TV Personality, Sports, and Schools, to Lifetime Achievement, to name a few of the 12 categories.

Follow Thaba Nchu Community Excellence Awards on Facebook or visit www.thabanchuawards.co.za to view the categories and nominate deserving individuals.

“We call on businesses and our government to support us. For support or sponsorships, please contact our Board Chairperson on 082-227-6123,” he concluded.
