Teenage girl nabbed for human trafficking

A 16-year-old girl is in custody for human trafficking.

OFM News reports that this came after she was nabbed in Zamdela, Sasolburg in the Free State after she allegedly solicited the kidnapping of two 15-year-old girls. The three teenage girls, who are scholars at the Mafube Intermediate School, were reported missing in Phuthaditjhaba.

Police spokesperson, Motantsi Makhele, says preliminary investigations revealed that the girls were lured from their homes and used for prostitution by unknown foreign nationals.

Makhele says the three girls were last seen on 20 November. He adds that their school uniforms were found inside a dustbin outside one of the girls’ family home, which then prompted the investigation into their disappearance. Two of the girls were later found outside a tavern in Sasolburg. He further adds that these girls were then reunited with their families by the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit (FCS).

The 16-year-old girl is expected to appear before the Phuthaditjhaba Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 07 December.

The investigation into tracing the kidnappers is ongoing. “Police are pleading to anyone who might have information to contact Lieutenant Colonel Lekhaoli Thito on 082 414 9736 or Captain Thabiso Moholo on 083 750 5366,” Makhele adds.
