Members of the South African Police Services (SAPS) in Welkom are urgently looking for the family of an unknown teenage girl who was found crying in the Central Business District.
The girl, who calls herself Karabo, was found crying next to a local butchery in town this morning. Karabo is estimated to be around 16 or 17 years of age. She was found with a cell phone in her possession with only four contacts, including the number of a foreign national who resides in Durban.
According to police spokesperson, Captain Stephen Thakeng, Karabo does not say much. “Members of the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit were engaged and tried several times to talk to the girl,” said Thakeng.
The teenager is currently in the care of members of the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit in the Lejweleputswa District to trace relatives.
Anyone who might know this girl or her relatives, can contact Detective Captain Bizzah Ntsiane on 082 4666 762 or call the police emergency number 08600 10111.
