Howard Ndaba, spokesperson for the Department of Education in the Free State

The Department of Education in the Free State has confirmed that another two schools, Sentraal Primary and Fauna Primary in Bloemfontein, have had two of their teachers test positive for Covid-19.

According to the departmental spokesperson, Howard Ndaba, a mobile lab has been deployed at Sentraal to start the screening process for staff and learners. He explained that should any learners show any flu-like symptoms, parents will be contacted before any testing will be done.

Ndaba said the Department of Health has also started the mapping process to establish which areas of the school or which persons the teacher at Sentraal came into contact with. He said schooling at this specific school has been suspended for the necessary decontamination process to take place and parents will be informed as to when learners can return.

Bloemfontein Courant spoke to Ndaba while on his way to Fauna Primary and he explained that the Department of Education is having constant interaction with the Department of Health in the FS and they are yet to advise a way forward for Fauna Primary.

He concluded by saying that two teachers at two different schools in Qwaqwa, namely ClubView Secondary School and Makgalaneng Primary School, as well as a grade nine learner at New Horizon Secondary in Harrismith have also tested positive for the virus and a way forward will also be given by the Department of Health as soon as possible.
