A taxi driver has been sentenced to 8 years imprisonment or a R40 000 fine for culpable homicide.
Police spokesperson Sellwane Mapamela says on 8 September 2010 police received a call about an accident that had occurred at R57 between Sasolburg and Heilbron road.
“A taxi travelling from Heilbron was involved in a head-on collision with a truck travelling from Sasolburg. Nine passengers in a taxi died and the taxi driver and two passengers survived the accident. The truck driver and his crew had no injuries,” she says.
Mapamela adds that nine Culpable Homicide cases were registered at Sasolburg police station and Themba Mabe (25) was arrested.
She says Warrant Officer Thekiso Serobe worked tirelessly on the case and Themba Mabe was found guilty of nine charges of culpable homicide on 23 October 2013 and sentenced to 8 years, or had to pay an admission of guilt fine of R40 000.00 at the Sasolburg Magistrate’s Court.
