A 61-year-old taxi driver is in police custody after he allegedly stabbed a 36-year-old passenger at a local filling station in Thaba Nchu.
Police spokesperson, Sergeant Martin Xuma, said that the incident happened on Wednesday 3 July 2019 at about 19:20 when a taxi travelling from Bloemfontein arrived in Thaba Nchu.
“As passengers disembarked from the taxi, one passenger requested his change from the taxi driver, after which a fight allegedly broke out between the driver and the passenger. The taxi driver apparently took out a knife and allegedly stabbed the passenger in the chest,” explained Xuma.
He added that the taxi driver then drove to the police station and reported himself to the police. “When the police arrived at the crime scene they found the deceased lying on the ground. Emergency Medical Services were summoned and they certified the African male dead at the scene.
