Taking classical music to different schools

The Free State Symphony Orchestra will be hosting public concerts at various schools in the community next week.

The annual outreach concerts are part of an initiative made possible through funding by the National Lotteries Commission, which hopes to incite interest in classical music from a young age to children from different backgrounds.

These concerts have a strong educational focus and will be hosted by FSSO Artistic Director and Conductor, Alexander Fokkens, who is passionate about the education of young musicians, with one of his undeniable strengths being that of discovering, inspiring, mentoring and developing young musical talent.

“Based on the success of last year’s outreach programme, the FSSO Board seeks to address orchestral music education provision, support, enrichment, learning, teaching and training needs of young musicians, whilst building an audience that will sustain classical music in the Free State for many years to come,” said Fokkens.

The concerts will take place in the mornings at the following local primary schools:
28 January 2019:
Saint Andrew’s School 08:30
29 January 2019:
Fauna Primary School 08:00
Willem Postma Primary School 10:00
30 January 2019:
Eduplus School 08:00
Bainsvlei Combined School 10:00
