Suspects still at large after armed robbery in Botshabelo

Police in the Free State are still searching for eight men in connection with a robbery at a shopping complex in Botshabelo on Saturday. Police spokesperson, Masilela Langa, says the men, armed with a pistol and a rifle, held two Fidelity Guards at gun point while they were about to deliver money to a supermarket in a shopping complex.

The security guards were walking in the busy shopping complex. Chaos erupted when shots were fired. A man and a woman, who were standing in a queue at a nearby ATM were shot in the thigh. They  were taken to a local hospital for treatment.  According to Langa one of the security guards was beaten with an unknown object while his service pistol was stolen from him. Two money canisters, carried by the other security guard, were grabbed by the robbers.

Langa says the suspects fled the scene in a silver BMW and a Honda Ballade. He appeals to anyone with information to contact their nearest police station. – Christal-Lize Muller
