Suspects sought after brutal attack on elderly couple

Members of the South African Police Services (SAPS) are on the hunt for three armed robbers after an attacked on an elderly couple in Oranjeville, during which the husband was killed.

The couple was robbed this morning (22 January 2021) of their firearms, cash, as well as their car, which the suspects used as a get-away vehicle.

The couple, aged 67 and 68, was sleeping in their home when the suspects entered their home. According to police spokesperson, Colonel Thandi Mbambo, one of the suspects was allegedly standing near the bedroom door, whilst the other two were on both sides of the bed.

“The husband (68) tried to wrestle with the suspect who was on his side of the bed and was stabbed four times during the ordeal. His hands and feet were then tied and he was left on the ground,” said Mbambo.

The suspects demanded money from the wife, who took them to a safe in the garage. The suspects were not satisfied with the amount of money and took the husband’s firearm, which was also in the safe. The suspects managed to get their hands on another firearm in a different safe in the house.

The wife was then tied and left on the bed. She managed to untie herself and call for help. Her husband was later declared dead on the scene.

The suspects fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of money and two pistols. They drove off with the victim`s VW Polo with registration number HGX 515 FS.
