Most of the 34 suspects arrested by the Hawks last week for dealing in drugs in Bloemfontein are expected to appear in different local courts today. This comes after an intensive investigation by the Hawks in conjunction with Free State police. Hawks spokesperson, Hangwani Mulaudzi, says the arrests are a major breakthrough as the kingpin – responsible for supplying drugs from Gauteng and distributing them to local dealers – was arrested. According to him most of the suspects are South Africans and Nigerians.

Mulaudzi says drugs, mostly Mandrax to the value of about R1 million, were seized at different locations. Seven vehicles were also confiscated. He says the Hawks are not ruling out the possibility that the suspects are part of a larger syndicate.
