Suspect wanted for Bethlehem farm murder

Thapelo Samuel Mokoena

Detectives of Bethlehem have asked for help from the community in the search of Thapelo Samuel Mokoena of Matsikeng in Qwaqwa. This comes after a farm attack that took place on 23 August 2004 where Johanna Cathrina van Niekerk (72) and her employee Tororo Elias Tsholo (43) were allegedly killed at Dankbaardheid Farm in the Bethlehem district by Mokoena and his four accomplices.

Mokoena also goes by the surname of Mlangeni. According to police spokesperson Brigadier Motantsi Makhele, Mokoena (the wanted suspect) and his accomplices fatally shot Cathrina and Tororo and left another employee seriously wounded. “The injured employee managed to alert the police who swiftly responded and made an arrest on Mokoena and four other suspects,” said Makhele.

Mokoena escaped from the holding cells in Makwane on 27 July 2005, a day before their sentencing. He is suspected to be at Caltonville in Gauteng.
