On Friday 13 September, the 42-year-old David Munashe appeared in the Botshabelo Magistrate’s Court, facing charges of possession of suspected stolen property and contravention of the Medicines and Controlled Substances Act 101 of 1965.

The arrest took place on Wednesday 11 September after members of the Botshabelo Crime Prevention Task Team received information about a man carrying suspiciously wrapped bags in the H1-Section. Acting swiftly, the team approached the area and apprehended the suspect.
“The police then searched the man at about 19:40 and found 313 bottles of Bron Cleer Cough Syrup in his possession, valued at R15 650, and 10 bottles of Salterpyn Syrup valued at R500,” stated police spokesperson, Lt. Col. Thabo Covane. “The suspect, who is of foreign origin, was also found without proper documents to be in South Africa.”
A case involving possession of suspected stolen property and a violation of the Medicines and Controlled Substances Act (Act 101 of 1965) has been opened at the Botshabelo Police Station. The seized medicine bottles have been taken as evidence, and the suspect is currently in police custody.

The individual has been remanded and is scheduled to appear in court on Friday 20 September.
