Suspect dies during Sasolburg drug bust

A 30-year-old suspect died after he was allegedly discovered with white residue on his lips on Tuesday. This comes after Sasolburg police had raided a notorious drug den in Zamdela, where they discovered heroin, cat, mandrax, dagga and 65 small packets of crystal-meth.

According to police spokesperson Constable Peter Kareli, the suspect fled on foot before he was chased by the authorities. “The suspect was arrested and brought back to the scene, members realised that the 30-year-old had a white residue on his lips,” said Kareli.

It was then that things turned for the worst. “While members were busy searching the house, the suspect started complaining of not feeling well.  Emergency services were called to the scene and the suspect’s condition quickly deteriorated and he died while paramedics were busy with him,” Kareli explained.

Two other suspects, aged 20 and 26, were also found at the infamous house and subsequently arrested. The couple were charged with dealing in drugs and an undisclosed amount of cash was found at the scene. Kareli stated that drugs worth about R15 000 were found in the bedroom.

“An inquest has been opened to determine the death of one suspect and the two are facing charges of dealing in drugs. They will appear in the Sasolburg Magistrate court soon,” he said. – Nomaqhawe Mtebele
