Suspect back in court on Tuesday after Marseilles attack

The 24-year-old suspect that was arrested in connection with an attack on an elderly woman in Ladybrand will have to reappear in court on 15 November.

Police spokesperson, Phumelelo Dhlamini, says Mojalefa Setlai will only then apply for bail. He says the case could not go ahead yesterday, as a statement from the victim who is still in ICU could not be taken.

This comes after 65-year-old Mazel Meiyer was attacked with a bottle in her face at her home in the Marseilles district on 29 October.

She was alone at the time of the attack and was later found by family members. She sustained serious fractures to her face.

Dlamini says the suspect was arrested at approximately 19:00 on a neighbouring farm on the same day. The police also confiscated a television set from home which allegedly belonged to Meiyer.

Setlai remains in custody.
