Suspect arrested in possession of illicit drugs in Bloem

During the execution of Operation Shanela, members of Public Order Police Unit in Bloemfontein spotted a man riding an unregistered scooter recklessly in Heatherdale Road, Bloemfontein.

According to police spokesperson Thabo Covane, the rider, who was not wearing a helmet, skipped a red traffic light, prompting a reaction from the police on patrol.

“The members pulled over the scooter and made the person aware that he was transgressing regulations of the Road Traffic Act, 93 of 1996.

A search was also conducted and the police found one full Mandrax tablet and two zip lock bags in his possession, containing Chrystal Meth,” said Covane.

He added that the 46-year-old suspect from Bloemspruit was arrested for the possession of drugs and also charged in terms of the Road Traffic Act.

“The unregistered scooter and the illicit drugs were also confiscated. The suspect will appear in the Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court soon,” he said.
