Suspect arrested for possession of unlicensed firearm, ammunition

Members of the Public Order Police Unit arrested a 29-year-old suspect for the possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition on Monday 27 November.

According to police spokesperson Thabo Covane, the team was busy with Operation Shanela actions when they received a tip-off from the community.

“The police arrived at the identified house in MK Square in Kopanong, Bloemfontein, at around 23:40.

A search was conducted and a firearm with a magazine and six live rounds of ammunition were found.

Upon further search, a toy gun, resembling a real firearm and two rounds of ammunition were found. The firearm and ammunition were seized and the suspect arrested,” said Covane.

He added that a case of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition was opened at the Kopanong Police Station.

The 29-year-old suspect will appear in the Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court soon.
