Senki Mavin Mokoena (39) was recently arrested by Bethlehem detectives for a crime committed nearly 15 years ago. Mokoena was arrested at his workplace in Vanderbijlpark on Sunday 7 February 2021.
This comes after he was detained with seven other co-accused during September 2006 when they allegedly assaulted 49-year-old Petrus Tshabalala. According to police spokesperson, Brigadier Motantsi Makhele, the co-accused were sentenced and served their term, while Mokoena refrained from attending court proceedings.
Members of the South African Police Services has since been on the hunt for Mokoena. Mokoena appeared in court on Monday 8 February 2021 and was found guilty. Like his co-accused, Mokoena is expected to spend 90 days in prison. He also got a sentence of four years, which was wholly suspended.
Investigating officer, Detective Captain Jabulani Victor Mbonambi, received praise from the FS Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Baile Motswenyane, for leaving no stone unturned until justice was served. Motswenyane said that this should serve as a warning to other criminals who think they can commit crime and get away with it.
