Sunshine Walk to beat Covid-19 fatigue

Chief Executive Officer at the Bloem Show, Elmarie Prinsloo.

Bloem Show, in partnership with OFM and Bloemfontein Courant, will be hosting a 2.5km Sunshine Walk in support of Food4kids on Sunday, 17 October. The purpose of the fun walk is to get the community of Bloemfontein outside, active and socialising again.

Marketing manager of OFM, Lindiwe Mtwentula, told Bloemfontein Courant that since the start of the pandemic people have been unable to go out and take part in such events. “Why not do it for a worthy cause this time? We urge the community to bring non-perishable food and help us make a difference in the lives of the children supported by Food4kids,” Mtwentula said.

Chief Executive Officer at the Bloem Show, Elmarie Prinsloo, said this initiative was sparked by the negative impact the pandemic has had on people, as well as the urge to get back to normality. “Attending events made me realise that it is time to get people together within the safety of Covid-19 regulations. This will result in people feeling better about themselves and having a more positive attitude. Our staff said it was like the song, “Walking on Sunshine”, and that is how the name Sunshine Walk came about.”

According to Prinsloo, there will be a fun filled competition to collect six stamps at venues along the way and participants will have a chance to win great prizes. “As this event is free of charge, we ask participants to donate a non-perishable item to Food for Kidz.

“Bloem, let’s get outside and be active! It’s time to rise again, so put on your tackies and pull into the Bloem Showgrounds on 17 October!” Prinsloo encouraged.

The Sunshine Walk will start between 07:00 and 09:00 at the Banquet Hall. Parking will be available at the fun fair grounds. Strict Covid-19 regulations will apply.
