Police arrested five students at the University of the Free State’s Bloemfontein campus after the students attempted to disrupt tests at the EXR exam halls this morning.
Police spokesperson, Chaka Marope, told OFM News the students were arrested for the contravention of a court order.
Marope says they will remain detained at Park Road Police Station for the weekend and will appear before the Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
The students were protesting against the deregistration of students who have been provisionally registered at the institution.

The original deregistration deadline of 31 March was extended while university management and the UFS SRC were holding discussions to devise ways to assist those who haven’t paid their registration fees in full yet.
