Students gathered at the Welkom Magistrate Court today for the first appearance of a suspect involved in the murder case of Naledi Lethoba. This comes after the 19-year-old suspect Obed Leshoro was arrested this week in connection with the gruesome killing.
According to police spokesperson Captain Stephen Thakeng, the case has been postponed for a bail application. “The suspect was arrested on 28 May 2019 and appeared today. The case was postponed until 14 June 2019 for a formal bail application. Leshoro remains in police custody.
The body of 21-year-old Lethoba was discovered by a person passing the corner of Buren and Arrarat streets in Dagbreek, Welkom. According to her landlord Kenny Moholobela, she had just finished her last semester at a local college and was heading back to her hometown of Bothaville. “The last time I spoke to her was on Saturday when she called me to let me know that she was moving out because her semester was done,” said the landlord of a local student commune.
The victim was found the next day in the early morning of 19 May 2019.
Students of her college gathered for the outcome of the first appearance of Leshoro, also a student. This after Lethoba was murdered in a gruesome way with burn as well as stab wounds on her body.
“We stress that people should not resort to violence in relationships. If a relationship ends or turns for the worst just walk away. One young life is gone and another is changed forever,” expressed Thakeng. – Nomaqhawe Mtebele
