Former Bloemfontein-based afro-pop artist, Mbulelo Stone Mayo, whose album titled Happy People is doing well in the market, has been nominated for the South African Traditional Music Achievement (Satma) Awards.
The remarkably talented musician hails from the City of Roses and although he is currently riding the wave of success, it has not always been smooth sailing for Mayo. In an interview with Bloemfontein Courant Stone said when he was introduced to the music industry it wasn’t easy at all. “However, as the years have gone by, I gathered the experience that has pulled me through,” he said.
Mayo is a former member and co-founder of the award-winning afro-pop group, Kaya. Stone and his fellow Kaya members have become one of the first ever groups in the Free State to win a coveted award such as the Metro FM Newcomer award.
“I have performed alongside artists such as Tshepo Tsola, Arthur Mafokate and Boom Shaka, to name but a few. I have also produced hit songs for artist such as Kaya, Brenda Fassie, and Twasa. I am currently working with a number of artist around the country.”
