Stock theft suspects in court for second day running

SABRINA DEAN – Police have not yet ruled out the possibility of bringing charges related to organized crime against two suspected stock thieves due to appear in the Rustenburg Magistrate’s Court today.
Police spokesperson Sabata Mokgwabone says forty-year-old Charles Marais and Martinus Groenewald, 35, appeared on stock theft charges in the Brits Magistrate’s Court yesterday. He says the case was postponed until 5 November and the pair was remanded in custody ahead of today’s appearance on additional stocktheft charges.
The men are accused of stealing 139 cattle from various farms across the province before selling them to abattoirs in Villiers. Mokgwabone says investigations are still continuing. "At this stage it is only stock theft cases but we can’t rule out the possibilty of other charges in terms of organised crime," he says.
