Known for their very strong record in cricket, Saint Andrew’s School has consistently produced South African Schools and South African Colts cricketers. This year the small school with a very big heart has partnered with South African financial service group and Africa’s biggest lender by assets, Standard Bank.
Retail and Business Banking Head, Brendan Jacobs, together with Provincial Head of Standard Bank in the Free State and Northern Cape, Anton Nicolaisen, handed over the new cricket kit to the team on Wednesday 2 October.
According to Nicolaisen, Standard Bank is a proud brand and it is important that they link up with brands and products which are living the same values and setting the same standards. “Saints’ cricket team has been doing awesome the past couple of years. We are proud to be associated with the team. It is important to us to support the local export products. Saints has a proud heritage as a school and we see Standard Bank as having that same heritage. We would like to help them to achieve their goals and hopefully this would help these young men play nationally one day,” Nicolaisen said.
According to director of cricket at Saint Andrew’s, Gregg Hobson, the team is proud to be associated with a brand such as Standard Bank. “The way we see it, is not just a sponsorship but a partnership, and hopefully we will go from strength to strength. I think the school and the bank share some common goals,” he said. – PIERCE VAN HEERDEN
