St Michael’s School for Girls has every reason to celebrate after achieving a record 37th consecutive year enjoying a 100% pass rate – all thanks to its class of 2016.
While there was much excitement in the Free State about achieving the number one spot in the nationwide results, SMS is very jubilant with the 96 distinctions from its 55 matric learners.
Head of the Department of Arts, Dr Johan Cromhout, says key areas of distinctions were in Mathematics, Physical Sciences, Life Sciences and within his own department, Arts.
One of the school’s top learners this year, Ntoetse Molapo, who received six distinctions out of eight subjects, got an average of 84.38% in her subjects.
Ntoetse’s parents say the 17-year-old, who was still in her sweet 16s during the National Senior Certificate exams, has always been an overachiever and has always known what she wants, also adding that they never had to remind her of the work ahead of her.
Melanie Schoeman, one of the teachers at this Bloemfontein school, attributes the school’s success over the years to the commitment teachers have towards the students as well as towards the school.
