Mangaung Shine Banyane Sports Club, in partnership with Botshabelo FIFA team led by Vuyisile Nomyayi, Nomsa Fothoane and Sello Lebabo, hosted the first ever Botshabelo FIFA Tournament to celebrate 67 minutes of Mandela Day.
The tournament was organised early to try to accommodate and send off the MSBSC ambassador, Shine Banyane, who left for Japan on Monday to attend the FISU World University Championship.
The children were exposed to different games like table soccer, play station and mema 32 in the two first days. 67 players were selected to join the official competition on 14 July 2018 to get winners in two games of table soccer and FIFA play station.
“It was amazing how we got to this point. First of all, we didn’t target kids, we organised the event for young adults. We put down a winning prize of R2000 for the winner and registration fee of R200 per player, until we met with Shine Banyane and everything changed. The affiliation fees were cancelled. I saw such joy for the full three days and I am very grateful I was part of the team that has brought smile to the faces of of the children, honouring and celebrating the legacy of our icon, Nelson Mandela,” said Vuyisile Nomyayi, event coordinator.
“It takes one moment or opportunity to change the life of someone. It can start by encouraging kids to perform small acts of kindness to build empathy. Happy people are more successful than unhappy people. Thank you to Vuyisile Nomyayi, Nomsa Fothoane and Sello Lebabo for allowing these kids to benefit from this year’s Mandela celebrations. I can now leave the country in peace as I wanted to do something positive before I go,” Shine Banyane, MSBSC ambassador said.
