The Rhapsody Orchestra, founded in 2020 by conductor Heinrich Lategan and local musicians, is a Bloemfontein-based community orchestra.
Comprising amateurs, students, scholars, and professionals, it provides regular opportunities for musicians to rehearse, perform, and enjoy the social benefits of group music-making. Since its inception, the orchestra has delivered numerous successful productions and community performances, fostering a growing love for music in Bloemfontein.
Their latest concert, Mozart Masterpieces, takes place on 15 March at 19:00 at the Odeion, conducted by Lategan and featuring a special solo by the soprano Emily Dangwa.

Dangwa, a seasoned performer, has previously appeared in Bloemfontein with the Free State Symphony Orchestra and internationally at events like World Music Day in Namibia and East Africa’s annual classical concert in Tanzania. In 2024, she performed with The Secret Artist Club in Bloemfontein, premiering her album Courage Through Fear.
“Immerse yourself in an enchanting evening of Mozart masterpieces as The Rhapsody Orchestra starts off the 2025 concert season with a programme celebrating one of classical music’s most beloved composers,” said the orchestra’s Ezelle Erasmus.
The concert will feature three of Mozart’s works, including Mozart’s comic opera, Overture to The Impresario, Dangwa’s performance of Exsultate Jubilate, and will end off with the powerful “Jupiter” Symphony No. 41.
“The evening culminates in his magnificent final symphony, renowned for its masterful combination of grace, drama, and complexity,” added Erasmus. “We promise a friendly and comfortable atmosphere for both new and seasoned music lovers to enjoy.”
