Soutpan supermarket robbed

No arrests have been made in connection with a robbery at a wholesale shop at Soutpan outside Bloemfontein on Wednesday. Four men armed with pistols entered the shop just before closing time at about 19:30.

Police spokesperson, Wendy Nkabi, says one of the suspects waited at the entrance while the others jumped over the counter and emptied the till. She says shots were fired but no injuries were reported. According to her, the robbers fled the scene on foot.

Meanwhile, police are still searching for five armed robbers involved in a separate supermarket robbery last month in the Universitas neighbourhood in Bloemfontein. Police spokesperson, Chaka Marope, says the robbers, wearing balaclavas, stormed into a supermarket in Paul Kruger Avenue shortly before closing time.

A security guard and a cashier were held at gunpoint. No injuries were reported. An undisclosed amount of money was stolen.  – Christal-Lize Muller
