A cleaning process of the Soutpan water plant system, reservoir and network was implemented by the Mangaung Metro Municipality (MMM) in partnership with the Department of Water and Sanitation and  Bloemwater on 28 February 2018.

Unfortunately this project required a water shutdown for effective work and cleaning to be done, which caused an inconvenient situation for the community of Soutpan.

The delay in the operation is happening because of the unavailability of some material that is not manufactured in the Free State. According to a media release from MMM Communications the engineering department has managed to procure the filters and is awaiting the delivery.

“These filters are an integral part of the project, and once they arrive they will be fitted immediately, and the plant will be re-commissioned. All residents are strictly advised not to drink any tap water until the entire operation is completed. The community will still be provided with water,” said the MMM.

The plan in the near future is to get a permanent solution for this plant that hasn’t been serviced in quite a while. The Department of Water and Sanitation is asking for patience of the community whilst they are undertaking this major process. Water supply through normal operations will be provided to the Soutpan community once work is completed.

MMM apologised for any inconvenience caused by this delayed process.
