The Free State Department of Education has recorded that almost all secondary schools in the province have reopened without any hassles yesterday.
The spokesperson of the department, Howard Ndaba, said that they were impressed by the return of grade 12 learners and teachers on 3 August 2020.
He explained that the department will continue to work with schools to ensure adherence and compliance to Covid-19 health and safety imperatives as teachers, learners and everyone at school should not be exposed to infections.
Due consideration will be given to areas that still require attention such as the provision of water and improvement of sanitation infrastructure.
The Department HOD, Adv. Tsoarelo Malakoane, said they were thrilled by the smooth return of teachers and grade 12 learners to school.
“We also wish to emphasise that key to our objectives is to ensure that everyone is safe and protected while we salvage the school year. We therefore request that there must be no relaxation in adhering to Covid-19 safety protocols in our schools,” he said.
Teachers, learners and support staff members are in turn requested to adhere to basic hygiene requirements by ensuring that everyone wears a cloth mask, washes hands or sanitises regularly, and observes social distancing.
