North West police have rearrested six of the eight awaiting trial prisoners who escaped from the Klerksdorp holding cells on Monday night.
Police spokesperson Thulani Ngubane says police are still working round the clock to apprehend the remaining two escapees.
Ngubane says a decision will be taken today on whether it will best serve the investigation to make their names public. He says this will depend n how close police are to apprehending the escapees.
“If the police know exactly where they are looking and don’t want to disturb the investigation we would rather wait and see how the investigation goes before releasing names,” he says.
The eight suspects escaped between 11 and 12pm on Monday night after strangling one guard and overpowering another. The two guards were treated for minor injuries at a local hospital.
The escapees are facing charges ranging from rape and housebreaking to former escape attempts.
