Shebe wins another Designer of the Year award

Gerhardt Shebe

After Gerhardt Shebe was awarded the Free State Fashion Week Designer of the Year title, one would think that things could not get any better for this Bloemfontein fashion designer. But things got so much better this weekend when he also won the Tshwane Fashion Designer of the Year award.
“It was an amazing experience and one of the biggest competitions that I have taken part in thus far,” Shebe said.
According to him there were over 20 amazingly talented designers from across the African continent, over 60 models backstage and the theatre was filled with fashion buyers, bloggers and reporters.
Shebe had a few strange experiences, including models fighting over his garments at the fitting sessions, people requesting him to do a plus-size range and a woman who said that she would pay him to model his gowns. “That meant a lot to me,” said Shebe.
As part of being Designer of the Year, he will be showcasing his designs at the Botswana Fashion Week in August.
He said he was a bit intimidated by a few designers, but he kept on believing in himself and his God-given talent. “It was not an easy competition and the other designers were on point with beautiful designs and amazing African prints, but I am so humbled and honoured by God’s favours and grace.” – Jeretha Oosthuizen
