SGB’s play an import role in SA school system

Schools and communities across the country are encouraged to prepare thoroughly for the elections of School Governing Bodies next month. The Federation of Governing Bodies of South African Schools (Fedsas), representing 1 800 SGB’s across the country, says schools need to inform parents of the election and nomination meeting dates. Deputy CEO of Fedsas, Jaco Deacon, says parents with children in grade R to grade 12 may stand for election or vote in the election. He says competent SGB’s can make a difference in the public school system.

The election process starts on March 1 and continues until March 25 for inland schools.

It is up to individual schools to determine the election dates within this period. Elections take place ever three years.

According to him SGB members receive no compensation for service render but their contribution are toward the interest of their children.
