In a time when youth unemployment is a serious concern, there are organisations doing their utmost to ensure that education and development opens doors for the nation’s youth. In Bloemfontein, one such organisation is the nonprofit company, Jubilee KSN Youth Development Company.
According to KJ September, Project Manager for the Jubilee KSN Youth Development Company, the company “helps our youth in Bloemfontein, and the Free State, since we have a high rate of unemployment in South Africa”.
The company, which was established in 2022, is based in Namibia Square and assists local youth by providing sewing and bead-making training. Their mission is “to improve the quality of life of young people through positive youth development in a safe and supportive environment”.
Jubilee KSN also hopes to encourage youth to become active and productive members of their families, schools, and communities, by sharing the love of sewing and beadwork with others within an uplifting environment.
“We were sponsored by the National Lotteries Commission this year, which allowed us to be able to buy more material, and to help many young people in Bloemfontein,” explained September. He is now hoping to form new partnerships to continue having a positive impact on the local youth community in Bloemfontein, and hopes to attract likeminded organisations to join the Jubilee KSN Youth Development Company in upskilling the nation’s youth.
“Our mission and vision is to make sure that our youth in the Free State can be upskilled and help themselves with the skills we give them,” added September.
Currently, there are eight students learning sewing and beadwork from the three tutors at the company.
