Residents of Mangaung Metro are urged to be cautious on the roads and in their homes after warnings of extreme weather conditions. The South African Weather Services (SAWS) has issued an Impact-based level 2 warning for heavy rains and severe thunderstorms for Tuesday 17 September 2024 from 12:00 until 23:00 within the city.
In a statement released by the MMM, the SAWS advisory mentioned that conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms with the passage of a cut-off low weather system which could result in strong and damaging winds, hail and floods in the eastern parts of the Free State.
“All residents and road users are requested to pay attention to alerts and warnings such as localised damage to settlements over open areas, power cuts, falling trees blocking minor roads and potential injuries due to flying debris,” the spokesperson of the MMM, Qondile Khedama, said.
