Seven more police homes torched in Bloemhof area

SABRINA DEAN – North West police are begging the community in the area around Bloemhof to respect the rule of law following another night of high level organized chaos.
Spokesperson Thulani Ngubane confirmed seven police houses were set alight last night and another four trucks travelling on the N12 from Christiana were also attacked.
"The homes of our committed police officers were torched last night," he says.
Ngubane says this brings to twelve the number of police officers homes that have been attacked since protests began.
"There were also about four trucks attacked on the N12. They capsized off the road and one of the trucks was then set alight," he says.
This is in addition to the four trucks attacked on Monday night.
More than 130 people have been arrested since residents from Boitumelong township just outside Bloemhof went on the rampage last week over unhappiness with service delivery issues and claims of corruption and nepotism against the Mayor. Numerous municipal buildings and the homes of the Mayor, councillors and other municipal officials have also been torched.
