34-year-old Muzi Wiseman Sithebe Twala was found guilty and sentenced to life imprisonment today, 15 September 2020, at the Bloemfontein High Court sitting in the Thabo Mofutsanyane Secure Justice Centre.
This comes after a series of rapes, murder and thefts Twala had committed between 2011 and 2018. According to Police Spokesperson, Brigadier Motantsi Makhele, it was discovered during his trial that between the period of August 2011 and February 2018 the accused had threatened complainants when he was fetching cattle from grazing fields, armed with a panga and knobkerrie, within Intabazwe near Harrismith. Twala then raped two boys and took their cellphones.
Twala has been involved in a number of cases where he raped and robbed his victims of their cell phones and belongings. In January 2018 he followed a minor from school and grabbed and threatened her with a firearm whilst raping her and taking her cell phone. In a separate incident, Twala met two individuals whom he offered to help carry their bags. He then demanded money from them, took their property and also raped the woman whilst holding a knife.
Twala was positively linked with DNA in all of the above cases and a murder case.
