Sentraal High headmaster lauds school’s 109th anniversary

Bloemfontein – Sentraal High School turned 109 years this month. Headmaster Johan Vorster said the school is privileged to be where it is. Learners are happy to be associated with Sentraal, the school that has continued to serve the community.

“The learners are proud. The history of the school is strong and the learners are proud to be a part of that,” he told Courant.

“Although we’re an Afrikaans medium school, we’re a school in service of our community. Over the past 10, nearly 11 decades, we have always been the school of integrity, brilliance and academic performance."

“We want to continue being an institution of excellence in academics and to provide South Africa with young and balanced citizens,” he added.

The school, situated in Dan Pienaar, officially turned 109 years and multiple activities accompanied the three-day celebration, which started on Friday, 22 August.

The celebrations entailed a reunion meeting at the school.

“The reunion group of 1974, 1984, 1994 and 2004, the old boys and girls, visited the school. We had a braai on Friday (at the hostel), and on Saturday (at the sport grounds) and the event ended with the sermon on Sunday," said Mr Vorster.

“We’re looking forward to the future. We want to play a pivotal part in the future of Bloemfontein and in the central region of the country."

“That’s our aim, so we’re looking forward to many more years to come,” he concluded.
