Bloemfontein – Romario Seekoei and Nicole Goncalves were named Mr and Ms Martie du Plessis at the recent Beauty Pageant held at the school on Thursday, 29 May 2014.

Jeanne Bosch, a teacher at the school, highlighted that the aim was to change the whole idea of the school pageant and take it to a different level.

“In the past, the Mr and Ms Martie were chosen and then did nothing after that. The whole idea behind this is, we want to use them more in the school,” she told Bloemfontein Courant.

“We want to use them at sports functions where they will be representatives of the school. If we have inter-schools or competitions, we also want them to play a role at these events,” Bosch added.

Seekoei enjoyed the experience and for him winning was the cherry on top.

“It was a nice experience. Though I was once bullied, I made sure I go out and do my best. That is what the judges said,” he smiled.

The matriculant highlighted that as the ‘face’ of the school, he would be expected to set a good example and that means staying neat, humble and respectful.

Concalves, Ms Martie, was thrilled to have won, saying the experience itself was something different.

“It is not something that I usually do. I enjoyed it, though it was nerve-wrecking. I entered because I wanted to try out something different, but I really didn’t see myself winning,” said the Grade 10 pupil.

The first prince and princess were Jan Kruger and Suzanne Steyn, while Daniel Best and Chantell van Staden were named second prince and princess respectively.
