The second day Special Votes went ahead as planned, but did not end without its own challenges.
In Botshabelo, residents of ward 35 vented their anger by burning tyres and barricading roads due to poor or non – service delivery. The swift action of SAPS defused the protest action spreading to other areas. The SAPS confirmed that the protest had nothing to do with elections
Much as there where sporadic protest, the Special Votes voting proceeded as planned

The above statistics above show a decline of SV’s cast as compared to the 5th May 2014.
Total votes cast for both Home and Voting station visit for two days amount to 25624 equivalent to 75% of votes cast. The reasons provided for the 25% that could not cast their votes vary from (i) Don’t leave on that address, (ii) Have passed on,(iii) Not at home, (iv) Did not come to the Voting Station and (v) Have been hospitalized.
Today’s voting started on a high note whereby voters displayed enthusiasm and flocked to their voting Stations to cast their votes. Not all voting stations opened on time at 07h00 this morning, but by 08h25 all were opened except the two in Smithfield: Boesmansburg and Laaspoort whereby the Area Manager was involved in an accident on the gravel road. By 08h50 this morning the two had opened.
Challenges:
We urge the Political Parties to refrain from bussing people to VS with short ques. This is affecting our ballot paper management at voting stations.
In spite of those challenges that were encountered this morning, the voting process is going according to plan.
The Electoral Commission would like to encourage all voters to go and cast their votes today as there will be no other voting day after today.
