School rape incident reported in Koffiefontein

A rape of a school pupil has been reported in Koffiefontein in the Free State.

Police spokesperson, Motantsi Makhele, tells OFM News that a 53-year-old man was arrested for allegedly raping a 12-year-old schoolgirl from the Leretlhabetse Primary School in town.

He says according to information, the girl was sleeping at the house of the suspect while he and his wife were sitting outside having drinks before the incident. Makhele says the alleged rape incident happened on Friday night at the residence of the suspect and it was only reported on Sunday when he was arrested.

This is the second incident reported within days in the province after a female after-care teacher (28) was arrested for the same crime involving a 13-year-old schoolboy from Brandwag Primary School in Bloemfontein on Friday 15 November.

The Koffiefontein suspect is appearing in court today.

Makhele further alludes that the wife of the suspect found him naked inside the room and attacked him before the matter was reported to the police on Sunday. On Wednesday 20 November, school pupils from the Leretlhabetse Primary School in Koffiefontein marched to the Local Magistrate’s Court, protesting against the incident. “It is alleged that the 12-year-old victim was sleeping in the bedroom while the 53-year-old suspect was sitting outside with his wife drinking.

“The suspect then went inside the house and headed straight to the bedroom where the victim was,” he adds.

“The wife of the suspect came in and found the suspect naked in the bedroom with the victim. She hit the suspect with her fists and the mother of the victim, who was in another house, came to fetch her daughter and left,” Makhele adds.
