According to Sassa, the verification process is primarily for clients under the selected categories of Covid-19 SRD and clients who are not listed in that category will not be affected.
The steps to the biometric identification process will be provided in detail by Sassa through instructions during affected clients’ interaction with the Covid-19 SRD system.
“Exact processes are confidential for safety reasons,” read the Sassa release.
The statement further states that biometric verification, if focusing on facial recognition, ensures only authorised persons can get a hold of client records which would lead to a reduction in identity theft and fraudulent payments.
“Payment of grants may be suspended for clients who do not complete the verification,” the statement further read.
