Following the sporadic incidents of petrol bombing of houses earlier in the Free State, the South African Police Services (SAPS) have issued a stern warning against perpetrators.

Police spokesperson, Malebo Khosana, reiterated that the Thabong Cluster Commander Major-General, Apaphia Modise, earlier warned that they are giving the necessary attention to these acts and those who are behind it will be arrested and be facing the wrath of the law.

Khosana told Bloemfontein Courant they have received several complaints since the beginning of January in Meloding. The latest was received on Tuesday, 15 January 2019 in Masilo, Theunissen. “We are currently investigating to find out the cause or motive of these incidents,” said Khosana.  He confirmed to Bloemfontein Courant that some victims of these attacks had been injured, taken to hospital for medical treatment, and have since been discharged.

He added no arrests have been made so far. “These attacks have now spread to Masilo, Theunissen, where two houses were thrown with petrol bombs on Tuesday. In the first incident, the attack did not cause any damage or harm as the petrol bomb hit the outside wall.

“The fire was extinguished at about 1 pm and no further damage or injury to family members was recorded. In the second house, the petrol bomb broke the window pane and one curtain caught fire.” said Modise. – Lucky Nkuyane
