Moqhaka Local Municipality Mayor Jihad Mohapi says their partnership with the South African National Defence Force (SANDF) is important to create social cohesion. He says it’s important to acknowledge the military role in the society. Mohapi was speaking at the Freedom of the City celebration in Kroonstad this morning.
The annual celebration is hosted by the municipality together with the military. He says on 13 October 1976 the military was given a chance to march on the streets with their full armed military attire. Mohapi says among other activities that will happen, soldiers will march around the streets of Kroonstad and display their armoured cars.
“The military defends the integrity and pride of our country. There is a meaningful role that they play in our society. The army is also a source of inspiration especially for young and aspiring youth who might want to pursue a career within the defence force,” he says.
Mohapi says he is proud to honour the military because they play a major role in the community. On Saturday there will be an open day for those who want to know more about the military.
