SALGA to prioritise on municipal financial woes

REFILWE MEKOA

The South African Local Government Association (SALGA) acknowledges that municipal financial woes are currently critical issues that need to be placed on the forefront.

According to Salga’s acting Free State executive officer, Zwe Ndlala, they have established a national multidisciplinary task team to focus on all causal factors that confront municipal financial challenges. The team will also concentrate on audit issues that need clarifications.

Ndlala says to ensure that things are going to operate smoothly they are currently assisting four municipalities.

“Those municipalities, we deploy Salga staff to go there and assist practically and hands on the municipal teams. With the view on ensuring that the issues with the Auditor General painfully struggled at the end of the financial year when he is evaluating the books at the end of a financial year, those issues are attended to,” he says.

Ndlala says they will host a finance two days seminar on 14 and 15 February, as a platform to intervene all municipal financial challenges.
