The national chairperson of the South African Local Government Association (Salga), Thabo Manyoni, was described as a unifier.
The accolade was uttered at a media briefing of the last NEC meeting of Salga, which took place in Bloemfontein on Tuesday. Salga will have its national conference by the end of the year where the new leadership will be elected.
Salga’s Deputy Chairperson, Mpho Nawo, said Manyoni has done extremely well during his tenure. He is being regarded as a visionary who has unified Salga’s leadership.
“Manyoni has also done extremely well in relation to how he unified the South African local governments. He has led Salga efficiently and has become a driver for South Africa to be involved at international forums. His leadership is extra-ordinary powerful and for those of us who work with him, can tell South Africans that we had a good leader and that he still remains a good leader.”
Meanwhile, Manyoni said he only did his level best.
“Whichever position I have been deployed in, I only tried my level best. I think working along with conviction and making sure that you do your best, particularly for those who are less fortunate, gives me satisfaction,” Manyoni said.
Furthermore, Nawo emphasised that Bloemfontein has changed from what it used to be since Manyoni’s leadership. He explained that the city even received an unqualified audit.
