The Free State MEC of Education, Tate Makgoe, said allegations made by the South African Democratic Teachers Union (Sadtu) are devoid of the truth.
In a statement, Makgoe clarified that there was no way he could have denounced the role played by a teacher union such as Sadtu in education in the province.
He said in all previous bilateral meetings he has held with the teachers union, the attitude has been to narrow differences and to agree on subjecting areas of disagreement to further discussion.
According to his understanding, both parties should continue to respect that process. Departmental spokesperson, Howard Ndaba, explains that Makgoe has responded to Sadtu’s allegations.
“On the 31st of March, the MEC issued a statement responding to some of those allegations and it was also sent to various media houses. At this stage we are reluctant to comment any further and we will issue a statement in due course regarding all those issues.”
