Royal Moscow Ballet exhilarating

The two acts in the Russian Royal Ballet are different to what producer Edouard Maisnikov has brought South African audiences in the past.

Bloemfontein ballet lovers can brace themselves for two exhilarating acts in The Royal Moscow Ballet, which will be visiting Bloemfontein for one performance only on 12 March 2019 at the Sand du Plessis Theatre.

Producer, Edouard Maisnikov, has outdone himself with this production. The first act is “Romeo and Juliet” – a one-act ballet composed by the Russian composer, Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky. It is styled in an Overture-Fantasy, and is based on Shakespeare’s play by the same name.

The work is based on three main strands of the Shakespeare story. The first strand is the introduction to Friar Laurence. The second strand is in B Minor and represents the Capulets and Montagues, and the third strand is the love theme, passionate and yearning in character but always with an underlying current of anxiety.

In the second act, which is based on “The Wheel of Fortune” (O Fortuna), Carmina Burana by Carl Orff, promises to leave the audience breathless. The two acts are different to what Edouard has brought South African audiences in the past.

A limited number of tickets are available and this will be the only Russian Ballet performance of 2019. Tickets are available from Pacofs with prices ranging from R200 to R350.
