After delivering a very brief address thanking MPs for honouring her, newly elected Free State Legislature speaker asked deputy speaker Sizwe Mbalo to oversee the rest of the day’s proceedings.
This includes the tabling of the special adjustment appropriation bill, the Finance Bill and the tabling of the Provincial Budget.
OFM News’ Sabrina Dean reports that ANC MP’s voted for and opposition MPs against each of the first two bills tabled.
Under the Special Adjustment Appropriation Bill, Finance MEC Elzabe Rockman announced, among others, an allocation of nearly R16-million for disaster management. The DA, however, said the bill fails to address the needs of the province.
Moving onto the Finance Bill, Rockman told the house this would pave the way for the authorisation of more than R300-million in previously unauthorised spending by several departments, including health and education.
She ended by saying the cupboard is closed for the year – there is nothing left and it is time to move onto the new budget.
She is currently delivering the provincial budget address.
