World Aids Day is a designated day to raise awareness of Aids and a commeration of those who died because of the disease. Annually, on 1 December, a red ribbon is used as a token of support.

Under the 2022 World Aids day theme “Rock the Ribbon”, the Department of Economic, Small Business Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs (Destea) had embarked on a campaign to show support for the people living with the disease by wearing red ribbons and remembering the lives lost by lighting candles as a tribute.

“Let us stand up and make a difference, let us create more awareness for a happy future, Together we must work hard to put an end to this disease and have a beautiful tomorrow. #Destea encourages all persons to get tested and know their status,” said the department in a post on social media.

The wellness officials of Destea invited professionals from the healthcare system to their offices for HIV, high blood pressure, and diabetes testing, which included immediate counselling when required.
