As part of their Mandela Day celebrations, the Mangaung Retired Teachers Association spent the day with learners from Tswellang Special School for the children who are differently abled in Phahameng.
According to the association’s Itumeleng Ditaunyane, the objective of the joyous occasion was to make the learners feel loved despite their abilities.
“Our outreach committee collected donated items from our members. We asked the school months before what their needs are, as a result, 270 learners benefitted.”
They donated necessities to the school that included items such as soap, Vaseline, roll-on, canned fish, and baked beans amongst other things.
As the association hopes to further its outreach, members of the community are welcome to assist wherever they can.
“The community can assist us by getting us a building that we can use as our multifunctional center for lessons we want to give the community young and old. Experts from various fields can help us to discuss topics such as Alzheimer’s, drug abuse, and drawing up a last will.”
To find out how to assist, locals can contact Ditaunyane at 082-372-8160 for more information.
